The veteran broadcaster has been nominated as a new ambassador to Russia. She is going to replace Michael McFaul, a policy expert. He has been steeping down from the job. If senate confirmed the news then Oprah Winfrey is going to be the next American Ambassador to Russia. She will be the first African-American to have this big responsibility and she will be one of the America’s highest profile diplomats.
The written statement read, “Oprah Winfrey is an accomplished businesswoman and a cultural icon. Although she started with nothing, now this captivating entertainer is worth billions of dollars.”
The Oprah Winfrey Show has showed her abilities. Her success is the proof of her intelligence and grit. She has all the necessary skills for representing America’s interests in Moscow.
“Since she left The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011, Ms. Winfrey has been searching for a way to give back to the American people. Using her considerable communications skills to resolve geopolitical conflicts will further cement her legacy as one of America’s greatest national treasures.”
For the last few weeks, the Obama administration has been not very good in selecting the right person for American diplomatic interests all around the world. Recently, U.S. ambassadors to Argentina and Iceland confirmed that they have never visited these countries. On the other hand, the next ambassador to China also said that he is not a China expert.
The Obama administration knows that they have to face difficulties because of the lack of Oprah’s experience in this field. White House chief of staff – Dennis McDonough – said, “We realize that Ms. Winfrey lacks foreign policy experience and will need some help performing her duties in Moscow. That’s why we’re also sending Montel Williams and Jerry Springer.
“Mr. Springer is an expert in conflict resolution and should really come in handy with regards to Syria and Chechnya. And Mr. Williams is a fantastic spokesman for any product. American foreign policy is proud to receive his endorsement.”
As in Moscow, the reaction to this news is mixed. Some people are angry about it and taking it as disrespectful act, while others are fine with the news.
Natalya Simonova, a university student says, “I think she’ll do fine. Everyone in Russia loves black people.”
