Pittsburgh is the second largest city in Pennsylvania. It is also the seat of Allegheny County. One of its immigrant workers who has fallen in love with the city recently wrote a love letter to the city. In the letter, Allison Bustin, who is originally from Lancaster County where she also grew up, writes about the experiences she has had in the city with its people and the many landmark features of the city. Allison has called Pittsburgh home since 2008 and works for a local non-profit organization in the city.

Allison first came to the city to tour the University of Pittsburgh with her mother. She was 18 years old at the time. She vividly describes the experience she had about the cit that chilly December day. Though it was not snowing, she remembers everyone being chilly and pale due to a cold wind. She found Pittsburgh beautiful even if the day itself was not so pleasing.  For a girl seeking escape from the watchful eyes of her parents, but wanting to be within the state, this was a perfect place and she was set on it as her preferred choice.

She may have hated the city for a while since she did not venture out much but later grew accustomed to the city’s rhythms and life as she began her outdoor forays. She quickly made friends and together, they explored. And they really thoroughly explored the city. Its landmarks, the bridges, the cathedrals, the bridges that rival Venice’s, the roads, the bike lanes that are ever increasing and the various mountains all fascinated her and made her love the city more.

Allison has had various interactions with the city’s people, most of whom are kind and helpful to those who are in a tight situation. The girl even finds reason to love the city in its housing availability and many other happenings in the city including the music community and the mannerisms of the Pittsburgh people themselves. Most of all, she loves the city for being open and welcoming to all, including herself.
